5 health rituals to do as a family: memories that nurture body and mind
What if your next big family memory wasn't a trip… but a moment of care, closeness and shared energy?
Doing sport as a family creates moments that stick. You forget the routine and live the moment 100%. Children imitate what they see.
By doing regular physical activity with them, you pass on healthy lifestyle habits without even having to lecture them.
At home, in a park, in the sunshine or in your living room, here are 5 rituals to create memories that boost your vitality... and your family bond!
Qi Gong for two: the dance of your energy
Imagine moving with your child, your partner or your parents, to the rhythm of slow breathing and gentle gestures…
Qi Gong for two is an inner dance: it improves flexibility, recentres the mind and gets your Qi (vital energy) flowing.
Why is it magical? Because by moving together, you learn to feel the other person's energy... and your own.
Try this:
Stand facing each other, feet together.
Greet each other with a small gesture (hands together or a nod of the head).
Spread your feet to take the horse stance (legs apart, knees slightly bent).
- Hand position:
- One person holds their hands palms down.
- The other holds their hands palms up, underneath, without touching.
- The palms are aligned, facing each other, a few centimetres apart.
Stay like this for 3 minutes, breathing calmly.
Swap hands: the person on top goes underneath, and vice versa.
Hold the position for 3 minutes.
The five animals game: the energy of nature's masters
Did you know that Chinese medicine teaches that each animal embodies a vital force?
The tiger develops strength, the deer flexibility, the bear endurance, the monkey agility and the bird lightness.
Imitate their movements: jump like the monkey, growl like the bear, fly like the bird. Laughter guaranteed, and muscles woken up!
The energy mirror game: move in unison
One family member becomes the "guide" and makes slow movements. The other, facing them, has to copy all their movements like a mirror, as if reflecting them.
No need to talk, just look at each other, feel and get in tune.
- A very simple but powerful exercise that develops:
- Motor coordination,
- Mindfulness,
- And above all… closeness!
Try creating an improvised choreography together. You'll see: your movements will sync up naturally… and you'll feel more connected than ever!
Standing like a tree: a balance game
Tree pose, inspired by yoga, is ideal for young and old alike: it develops concentration, strengthens balance and invites full presence. Practised in a circle, with a dash of play and lots of kindness, this moment becomes a ritual of connection.
- Stand in a circle, barefoot or in socks, on a stable floor.
- Fix your gaze on a point in front of you; it helps you keep your balance.
- Gently lift one foot and place it on the inside of the opposite calf or thigh (avoid the knee).
- Bring your hands together in prayer in front of your chest… or raise them to the sky like branches.
- Hold the pose for as long as possible.
- The winner is the person who stays balanced the longest.
Want more of a challenge?
Choose a "wind keeper": they walk slowly around the circle and blow (gently) on the players to test their balance!
Meditative walking: one step after another, together
After dinner, rather than heading straight for the sofa, go out for a few minutes' walk, slowly and mindfully. Walk together in silence, listening to your footsteps and your breath. No need to talk: it is in this shared calm that a real connection is born.
Meditative walking turns a simple stroll into a moment of recentring and active digestion. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, it supports the stomach and spleen, improves the circulation of Qi and prevents digestive stagnation.
As a family, it is a soothing ritual that also helps calm mental agitation before bedtime, especially in children.
Creating healthy moments as a family is much more than moving together. It means sowing, step by step, a culture of care and of attention to yourself and others.
These simple rituals become landmarks, bubbles of balance in the midst of everyday life. They require neither equipment nor expertise: just a little presence… and the desire to live together differently.
So this weekend, why not swap your routine for a little vitality ritual? Your body and your family bond will thank you.
For a personalised approach, it is recommended to consult a qualified practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Health message: take care of your energy, one movement at a time
Your vitality reflects your inner balance. By cultivating a gentle, regular and mindful relationship with your body through movement, as TCM suggests, you strengthen much more than your muscles: you stimulate your organs, regulate your emotions and promote lasting well-being.
