Laboratoire Calebasse
Since 1997, balance has shaped the way we approach Chinese herbal medicine:
a tradition rooted in centuries of observation,
brought into dialogue with modern science and today's quality standards.
Chinese medicine does not look at symptoms in isolation. It considers how sleep, digestion, energy, stress and other aspects of wellbeing can influence one another.
With Calebasse, I felt listened to, respected and supported — and more in tune with my body than I had been for a long time.
Marie C. — and many others who have found a more balanced way forward with Calebasse.
From loose herbs and infusions to classic formulas and modern supplements, every Calebasse product reflects the same approach: carefully selected ingredients, coherent formulation and respect for tradition.

Since 1997, balance has shaped the way we approach Chinese herbal medicine: staying true to its internal logic, starting with the quality of the herbs themselves, and applying today's standards of scientific and quality rigour — right through to the way we formulate.
Every formula begins with balance.
01
Start from balance
We first ask what kind of balance the formula should support, rather than pushing one single effect as far as possible.
02
Balance the formula itself
Each herb has a specific role and works in relation to the others. Coherence matters more than simply adding more ingredients.
03
Protect the wider balance
Address a specific need without losing sight of the body as a whole. Supporting one function should not come at the expense of another.
Traditional Chinese formulas are often structured around Jun–Chen–Zuo–Shi, a formulation principle in which each herb has a defined role. Rather than relying on one ingredient in isolation, the formula is designed as a coordinated whole, with each component understood in relation to the others.
Jun · The Emperor
The lead herb
The Emperor herb addresses the formula's main purpose and provides its central direction.
Chen · The Minister
The supporting herbs
The Minister herbs reinforce and complement the main action, while addressing related secondary needs.
Zuo · The Assistant
The balancing herbs
The Assistant herbs support the main action, moderate potential imbalances and help the formula work as a coherent whole.
Shi · The Envoy
The guiding herbs
In traditional formulation theory, the Envoy herbs help guide the formula's direction and harmonise the other ingredients.
