Multiflowered knotweed is a plant native to the Chinese provinces of Zhejiang, Hubei and Jiangsu. Its vine (Ye jiao teng in Chinese) has been used for hundreds of years by traditional Chinese medicine because of its action on the Spirit.

Ye jiao teng is known to nourish the Heart, the organ that houses the Spirit (or Shen) in TCM. Thus, it is used to promote the calm and serenity necessary for falling asleep. By stilling the Mind, Ye jiao teng promotes restful, undisturbed sleep.
