Valued for centuries in Chinese medicine under the name Zhu Ling, the Umbrella Polypore (Polyporus umbellatus) is one of the few mushrooms taken up very early into the classic formulas. What is harvested is the sclerotium, a storage organ buried at the base of old broadleaf trees.
