Description
Dried mulberry: the fruit of Yin and vitality
Known in China as Sang Shen Zi, dried mulberry has been consumed for thousands of years. Both a delicious fruit and an ingredient in traditional Chinese herbal practice, it holds a unique place in Chinese culture, where the mulberry tree is said to nourish both the body and the mind.
Harvested at full ripeness in spring and then gently dried, it naturally concentrates its goodness while preserving its delicate sweetness. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is associated with the Liver and Kidneys: it nourishes Yin, supports the Blood and contributes to clear vision as well as deep-rooted vitality.
Rather than acting as a short-term stimulant, dried mulberry provides gradual support. It gently accompanies the body during periods of fatigue, internal dryness or vulnerability, and is particularly suitable during seasonal transitions, when the body needs to restore its balance from within.
The power of a concentrated fruit
With its delicate skin and high water content, fresh mulberry is naturally fragile and difficult to preserve. Traditional drying not only helps prevent rapid deterioration, but also concentrates its beneficial compounds while preserving its sweetness and rich flavour.
In its dried form, mulberry offers a higher nutritional density, particularly in:
- anthocyanins and polyphenols, known for their role in protecting cells against oxidative stress,
- natural fibre, which contributes to intestinal balance and harmonious nutrient absorption,
- minerals and plant compounds that support energy metabolism and overall vitality.
This natural concentration makes it a functional fruit that supports physiological balance when regularly incorporated into the diet, without excessive stimulation.
Three pillars of balance
Yin energy & deep vitality
By nourishing Yin and the Blood, dried mulberry supports more stable and lasting energy, making it particularly suitable during periods of fatigue associated with overwork, ageing or seasonal transitions. Rather than stimulating the body, it helps replenish it gently.
Natural defences
Its richness in antioxidants helps preserve the body’s inner balance and support its natural defences every day. It provides gentle yet consistent support.
Intestinal comfort
As a natural source of fibre, dried mulberry promotes a balanced intestinal environment and smoother nutrient absorption. It therefore helps maintain comfortable intestinal transit and support overall energy, as proper absorption forms the foundation of vitality.

Wellness recipe
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, dried mulberries nourish Yin and the Blood, while rose is associated with relaxation and the smooth flow of energy. Together, they create a harmonious infusion that is both gentle and comforting, ideal at the end of the day or during seasonal transitions.
Ingredients
- 10 g dried mulberries
- 5 dried rosebuds (approximately 1 g)
- 3 to 5 g rock sugar (optional, according to preference)
- 800 ml hot water (80–90°C)
Preparation
- Place the dried mulberries and rosebuds in a teapot or large cup.
- Pour in hot water at 80–90°C, covering the ingredients by 3 to 5 cm.
- Cover and leave to infuse for 5 to 8 minutes, allowing the gently tangy sweetness of the mulberries to blend with the delicate fragrance of the rose.
- Stir gently and enjoy warm.
The infusion can be brewed 2 to 3 times, until the flavour becomes milder. The fruit and flowers can then also be eaten.
