A story of transmission, plants and balance
29 years of history
Two generations, three stages, one shared aim: to preserve the richness of ancient knowledge and give it its rightful place in today’s world.
Where does our name come from?
The calabash tree bears a fruit that is hollowed out and dried: it then becomes a light, sturdy container. Travelling Chinese doctors carried their pills and herbs in it, from village to village. That’s where our name comes from.
1997
Caring, above all
LIU Shao Hua, a gynaecologist and Chinese medicine practitioner, founds “À la Calebasse Verte” in Paris’s 13th arrondissement, to practise, pass on and make the plants of the Chinese pharmacopoeia accessible in France.
2017
Passing on, then modernising
Her son, WU Ruosi, a doctor of pharmacy and Chinese medicine practitioner, builds up Laboratoire Calebasse: tradition gives the direction, while modern science makes it possible to study, test and refine.
Today
From herbal shop to laboratory
Today Calebasse develops herbal teas, plants, food supplements and traditional formulas, while staying rooted in its historic Paris shop, where advice and a personal touch still come first.
