Post-menstrual herbal tea, or Si wu tang, is a famous preparation renowned for its benefits on the blood throughout East Asia.
Composed of five Chinese herbs: Striped lovage (Chuan xiong), Chinese angelica (Dang gui), Rehmannia root (Sheng di huang), Prepared Rehmannia root (Shu di huang) and Peony root white (Bai shao yao), this herbal tea is especially recommended for women whose periods are abundant, since it helps to recover after the cycle.

Rehmannia glutinosa 30 g, Angelica sinensis 25 g, Paeonia lactiflora 25 g, Ligusticum striatum 20 g

For a regular cure: Add 500 ml of water to two tablespoons (about 20 g) of the mixture. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes over low heat before serving. Consume once a day, preferably away from meals.
Recipe
1. Chicken Soup with Si Wu Tang
- Ingredients: ½ chicken, 5 jujubes, 10 goji berries, 1 sachet of Si Wu Tang herbs.
- Preparation: Wash the ingredients, place them in a pot, add water, and bring to a boil. Then, let it simmer on low heat for 1 hour, and season with a small amount of salt.
2. Pork Ribs Soup with Si Wu Tang
- Ingredients: 400 g of pork ribs, 1 sachet of Si Wu Tang herbs.
- Preparation: Clean the pork ribs to remove any blood, add them to the Si Wu Tang mixture, and let it simmer on low heat for 1 hour before adding a small amount of salt.
3. Eggs Cooked in Si Wu Tang Broth
- Ingredients: 2 eggs, 5 jujubes, 10 goji berries, 1 sachet of Si Wu Tang herbs, 3 slices of ginger, appropriate amount of water.
- Preparation: Wash the ingredients, place them in a pot with water, add the Si Wu Tang sachet, jujubes, and ginger, then bring to a boil. Let it simmer on low heat for 30 minutes. Add the eggs, continue cooking for 20 minutes, peel them (remove the shell), put them back in the pot, and cook for another 5 minutes. Season with a small amount of salt, add the goji berries, and let it simmer briefly before serving.
