Description

Job’s Tears – The pearly grain that lightens the body and purifies the interior

Known as Job’s Tears, or Yi yi ren (薏苡仁) in traditional Chinese medicine, this grain originating from Southeast Asia has been renowned for centuries for its draining properties. Its oval and shiny shape resembles a pearl or a tear, giving it a poetic name that evokes both the purification of the body and the expression of deep emotions.

Both a food and a wellness plant, it is very present in Chinese cuisine: integrated into soups, porridges, desserts or infusions, it is one of the ingredients consumed regularly to maintain a harmonious balance, particularly during seasonal changes or in hot periods.

A pillar of Chinese medicine for lightening and rebalancing

In Chinese tradition, Yi yi ren is renowned for its ability to dispel “dampness”, a key concept in TCM referring to a state of heaviness, stagnation, or overload in the body. When consumed regularly, this grain naturally supports elimination functions, helps release excess water, and promotes a feeling of lightness, especially when feeling heavy or bloated.

It is a particularly prized plant during hot periods, or in more sedentary lifestyles, when one may feel a certain internal sluggishness. Through its gentle and progressive action, Yi yi ren helps restore better balance: it clarifies internal sensations, lightens what weighs you down, and encourages a smoother movement of fluids in the body on a daily basis.

A plant with multiple uses, between tradition and modernity

✓ Natural daily support: For those seeking more lightness, especially in cases of overload linked to diet, heat, or lack of activity.

✓ Summer plant par excellence: Refreshing and gentle, it fits perfectly into infusions or dishes for hot seasons.

✓ A traditional ingredient with multiple uses: Used both in decoction and in cooking, it offers an experience that is both tasty and beneficial for inner balance.

In many regions of China, it is said that Yi yi ren is a “grain of wisdom” slipped into family dishes when the body feels tired or congested. A habit passed down from generation to generation to simply restore the link between food and well-being.
