Description
The wisdom of TCM: calming the Shen by releasing Dampness
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, sleep disturbances are not solely related to mental restlessness. When Heat and Dampness accumulate in the body, they obstruct the flow of Qi, create a sense of heaviness in the lower body, and disturb the Shen (Spirit), making it harder to fall asleep and leading to unstable, restless sleep.
TCM therefore emphasizes a holistic approach, combining external application with botanical synergy. Foot baths offer a privileged pathway: the feet are crossed by several major meridians (Kidney, Spleen, Liver), allowing plants to act deeply while remaining gentle on the body.
Foot Bath for Sleep (Qu Shi Zhu Mian Zu Yu Bao) brings together 17 traditional Chinese medicinal plants, selected for their ability to transform Dampness, promote the circulation of Qi, support the body’s natural elimination functions, and calm the Spirit. Together, they guide the body toward gradual relaxation, creating conditions for more natural and restorative sleep.
A complete botanical synergy, designed as a whole
At the heart of the formula are plants traditionally used to transform Dampness and support the Spleen, such as Poria (Fu Ling), Atractylodes Rhizome (Bai Zhu), and Fortune Herb (Pei Lan). They help the body release accumulated excesses. By encouraging drainage and urination, they ease the sensation of heaviness often associated with sleep disturbances.
This action is complemented by plants that promote the circulation of Qi and Blood, including Safflower Flowers (Hong Hua), Millet Jujube Vine (Ji Xue Teng), and Cinnamon Twigs (Gui Zhi). By dispersing stagnation and gently warming circulation, they help release physical tension and restore a sense of inner flow.
Finally, the formula relies on plants traditionally recognized for their relationship with the Heart and the Spirit, notably Polygonum Vine (Ye Jiao Teng), long used to calm the Shen and support falling asleep. Their presence transforms drainage and circulation into a deeper sense of inner calm, essential for quality sleep.
Rather than a simple combination of ingredients, Qu Shi Zhu Mian Zu Yu Bao is built on a coherent botanical structure, where each plant supports the others to guide the body toward a state of overall relaxation.
Sleep, lightness, calm: the essence of the foot bath for sleep
Clears Heat-Dampness and lightens the body
By stimulating the foot meridians, the foot bath helps the body release accumulated Dampness and Heat. This action supports natural elimination processes, relieves sensations of heaviness, and prepares the body for deeper, more stable rest.
Calms the Shen and eases falling asleep
By rebalancing the flow of Qi and soothing internal agitation, the ritual helps calm the Shen (Spirit). Mental tension softens, the mind settles more naturally, and falling asleep becomes smoother, without effort.
Supports circulation and nighttime harmony
The gentle warmth of the water and plants stimulates the circulation of Qi and Blood, enhances microcirculation, and encourages full-body relaxation. By restoring a more harmonious inner rhythm, the foot bath supports lasting improvements in sleep quality.
