Known in China as Zhen Zhu Fen (珍珠粉), pearl powder has been a precious ingredient of the Chinese pharmacopoeia for over 2,000 years — cited in the Bencao Gangmu, the great classic of Traditional Chinese Medicine (16th century), taken daily by Empress Cixi in the 19th century. Where does your pearl powder come from?
Our powder is made from freshwater pearls selected in Asia, finely ground with no chemical treatment. Packaged and tested in France. Each batch undergoes independent Eurofins analyses (calcium and amino acid profile).
What is the difference with mother-of-pearl or shell powder?
Pearl powder (Zhen Zhu Fen) is obtained from the whole pearl — the richest material in conchiolin and organic matrix. Mother-of-pearl powder (Zhen Zhu Mu) comes from the inner layer of the shell, often detached with caustic soda. Shell powder comes from the outer shell, which is poorer.
How long before feeling any effects?
The effects build up gradually and vary from person to person. Regularity of the ritual is essential — radiant complexion and inner balance generally settle in between 1 and 3 months of regular intake. It is over time, through seasonal cures, that pearl powder reveals its benefits.
Are there any side effects?
Pearl powder is generally well tolerated at the recommended doses. As a precaution, it is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or for children under 12 years. People with a mollusc allergy should seek the advice of a health professional.
Can it be used on the skin?
