Book - L’Esprit Originel des Quatre Sages
四聖心源 - Si Shen Xin Yuan
Translated by Abel Gläser
1 book
Description
Considered as the major work of a remarkable literary production, Huang Yuan-yu's Si Sheng Xin (Original Spirit of the Four Sages) constitutes in itself an organized and pedagogical synthesis of the Essence of Classical Chinese Medicine and offers the reader the indispensable opportunity to grasp its Framework. It can thus be described as a key work on the fundamental theory of classical Chinese medicine and its methods.
Three main concepts emerge from the work:
- The description of what we now call the "four movements" (up, down, in, out) through the principle of "Circular Flow of the One Qi (yi qi zhou liu 一气周流)"
- The importance qi of the center (zhong qi 中气) through the relationship that the spleen the stomach has with the four manifestations (si xiang 四象)
- The consideration given to cold and dampness in the injury of central qi leading to the need to pay attention not to injure the yang.
Methods, diseases and treatments make up the bulk of the book, thus revealing that theoretical principles and clinical practice are the front and back of the same page and cannot be separated.
Finally, the great simplicity of the herbal formulas present in this text are, in our opinion, the most refined expression - in addition to that of a profound knowledge of the art - of the path of medical dedication in which Huáng Yuán-Yù was engaged.
